How to Maintain Your Baseball Pants

Keeping your baseball pants maintained will help you keep a polished look while on the field while making it last longer. It is vital to maintain your pants through the course of the season so you don’t deal with wardrobe malfunctions during the course of the game, allowing you perform at your best. Here are ways to maintain your pants through the course of a long season while looking good doing it.

Pre-Treat Your Stains (But Don’t Use Bleach)

Stains are a common part of the game. Whether it’s dirt or grass stains from diving for a play, you’re bound to get a stain – or many stains during the course of the game. Be vigilant about pre-treating your stains so they can get washed out easily and not leave a stain for your next game. Use a stain remover or a detergent as soon as the game or practice is over. Stains are also an indication that dirt and particles stick to your pants which can lead to faster wear and tear. However, don’t use bleach as that will lead to yellow staining over time while weakening the fabric.

Wash Your Pants Separately

Wash your baseball pants separately so there is no color transfer from your other laundry. It also prevents heavier clothing items like sweaters and jackets from scraping or scratching the pants. Adding more stress during the wash cycle will lead to the fabrics wearing down. It is common for clothing with zippers, buttons and other fixtures to rip up or degrade the quality of the pants quickly.

Use a Gentle Cycle

A gentle wash cycle will still deep clean the pants while reducing the wear and tear of the pants. This will improve the lifespan of the pants especially in reinforced areas like the knees and seams. Whether your washing machine has a tumbler or not, the centrifugal motion of the machine will add its own level of wear and tear by default. There is no need to accelerate the process. Using a gentle cycle you will extend the life of your baseball pants.

Dry on Low Heat

High heat will shrink and weaken the fabric. A low heat will lead to even heat distribution even if it’s not fast. Repeated cycles on high heat can lead to seams coming apart and shrinkage, especially in areas that are reinforced. Another option is to hang up the pants in a dry area and let it air out naturally. It is important to note that hanging up your pants should be done in an area that does not accumulate dirt or stain producing particles.

Stitch Cuts or Small Tears Immediately

Small cuts or tears can lead to a much bigger cut or tear in no time. If one is identified, stitch it up quickly so you can maintain the stability of the pants. Likewise, if you notice any fabric of the pants sticking out, snip it off immediately as it is an indication there is a compromise in the pants. Fabrics that stick out will lead to snares and deeper tears.

Properly Store Your Baseball Pants

Baseball pants should not be treated like your casual pants at home. Properly store them when not in use. Merely crumbling the pants and pushing them off to the side is not a way to maintain your pants. Fold or hang up your pants in an organized manner to prevent wear and tear.
